GUERILLA CAROLLING SINGING SONGS TO AWAKEN PEOPLE FROM INDIFFERENCE

Sing with Ukraine
is a grassroots effort by Eastern European artists, started after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb 24th. What began as a gathering of friends processing grief together through song, has now become a journey and resistance effort through Toronto’s bars and music venues. We interrupt the pre-scheduled programming to celebrate Ukrainian identity, to show the humanity and culture of those affected, and to awaken ourselves and our city from indifference.

In light of devastating news and escalating war happening in Ukraine, local Toronto bands and artists organized a fundraising concert in support of Ukraine on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Opera House starting. All profits from the concert went to Help Us Help and grassroots initiatives in supporting humanitarian aid in Ukraine, and providing urgently requested medical supplies to volunteer medical units. Event was hosted by a Ukrainian-Russian duo: Oksana Hrycyna and Misha Artebyakin. The lineup featured Ukrainian and Eastern European groups such as Polky, BLISK, Nastasia Y, and Korinya and those with strong ties to Ukraine (Moskitto Bar, Dumai Dunai, Lemon Bucket Orkestra Brass), including Toronto-based artists Measha Brueggergosman, Catchfiyah, Ventanas, Rudy Ray, and Jim Creeggan of Barenaked Ladies, who came together to support the cause.

In addition to music, local visual artists and designers (such as Natalie Very B., Gary Taxali, Paula Hartmann, Oksana Hawrylak, Ptashka Arts, Arnaud Brassard, Mark Mykytiuk, Ivanka Theodosia Galadza, Carlos Gárate, Myroslava Boikiv, Kayoko Kawano, and Joseph (blackeyeddove) donated their artwork for this cause.
